Windows Migration assistant installation problem

My Windows 10 computer won't download Windows Migration Assistant. After allowing it to make changes on my hard drive, the installation begins but gets stuck at "installing bonjour". It gets stuck there and wont continue. When I try to close the installer, it won't close unless I force close it from task manager. Is there something wrong with my computer? I use Norton Antivirus, does that have something to do with it?

I was able to resolve this issue by first installing Bonjour Print Services for Windows. Then, the Windows Migration Assistant installer no longer needed to install Bonjour and so it had no problem installing the rest of the files.

Having the exact same problem.

After downloading and running WindowsMigrationAssistantSetup.exe, accepting licence agreement and approving the app making changes to the device, the installation dialog hangs with Installing Bonjour (see screen shot).

Per instructions, I ran chkdsk, uninstalled OneDrive, and am not running any 3rd party virus protection.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I had this problem. The solution was to find a stand-alone installer for Bonjour on the Apple web site and run that first. I think it was version 2.0.2. The installer is quite old, with a copyright date of 2010 and it doesn't list compatibility beyond Windows 7, but it installed ok. After doing that I ran the Windows Migration Assistant installer, which ran to completion. I had one more hiccough, where I had to restart the migration halfway through, but it did work in the end.

Thank you Ben! That got me through that part. Now Migration Assistant is 'finding items to migrate' and it has been search my documents for about an hour. The macbook is still at the screen: 'Transfer Information to This Mac' with the code. I hit the Continue and that is where everything has been for the past hour. It is normal to take a while? If so, how long should I wait? Thanks!
