Why are my haptics not working in games?

I just upgraded to the SE2 from the iphone 7. One of my absolute favorite features of Apple devices are the haptics, but since upgrading the haptics have not been working in anything other than the Apple apps (ie calendars and settings). I am extremely disappointed in not having haptic feedback in my favorite ios games and may not have made the ipgrade had I known I would lose that feature. I am really hoping this will be resolved.

I have tried restarting my device, turning haptics on and off and on again, restarting again, fiddling with the settings, putting them back, and a bunch of combinations of the former.

Please help!
