If you buy an unlocked model (not tied to a carrier), it will be able to work as Straight Talk offers iPhones as well. If you do not buy an unlocked model, your device may or may not work with straight talk depending on the frequencies used. iPhones on the iPhone Upgrade Program come unlocked and may be used with any carrier. I personally bought my iPhone 6s (back in the day) on the iPhone upgrade program. I was an AT&T customer. T-Mobile had coverage where I needed it, and had an offer I couldn't refuse. I simply walked into the store, moved my plan over, put in the new SIM card, and restarted my phone. When my phone booted back up, I was on T-Mobile.
