Hello! I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that I am trying to connect to an apple monitor that is slightly newer (2015 ish). Can anyone help me with a Mini DisplayPort to Thunderbolt adapter or similar option to connect the two?

In order to use any ThunderBolt devices, your computer must have left the factory with a Thunderbolt port.
There are no adapters, and as long as Intel controls both the chips and the certification process, there never will be.
I agree with Grant. For other protocols like HDMI, DVI, etc. you can sometimes find "active" adapters that do funky things to manipulate signals in ways they were never meant to be manipulated. But those are flakey by definition. Nobody is going to bother building anything like that for the tiny Apple Thunderbolt Display market. Even Apple abandoned that market, after all. These days, you could sell that 2010 MacBook Pro and you still wouldn't even have enough money for the monitor stand for Apple's current Thunderbolt Display.
If you are talking about an Apple Thunderbolt Display, then this is not possible. That is a Thunderbolt device. A Thunderbolt port can also function as DisplayPort, but not vice-versa.

The computer has: a "Mini DisplayPort" that supports an external display at up to 2560x1600
hmph, okie good to know... Is there an option to connect thunderbolt to a firewire 800 or other port?
