Single vertical quotation marks

On Pages, single vertical quotations marks ‘...‘ tend for no reason to transform automatically in Arial Unicode and cannot be deleted. Is there a solution for this odd thing? I need to use ‘ ‘. Thank you!

Look at your setting in Pages Preferences : Auto-Correct : Use smart quotes and dashes. Also, visit System Preferences : Keyboard : Text : Use smart quotes and dashes too. Set the Spelling selection to your explicit language, not the default Automatic By Language. And finally, in your Pages Edit menu : Substitutions, ensure that Smart Quotes is not selected.

All of the preceding steps if you want straight quotes instead of smart versions. The quotes should be done in the current font setting.
