Tried all the recommendations doesn't work gets half way through the process and comes up with error 53 again. Any suggestions please otherwise it's back to the store tomorrow.

if the issue is with your computer any replaced device would likely display the same behaviour, I would start by testing on another computer, neighbour, relative or friends to verify the iOS device was the culprit
From what I could find, this was an issue 2 years ago.
It was caused by third party repair shops replacing fingerprint sensors.
The device disabled itself for security reasons because the Secure Enclave felt it was being compromised.
apparently, you got a faulty device.
Tried all that doesn’t work still have the same problem. Uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, etc gets 50% of the way to updating software and same error appears. Will take it back tomorrow for a new one only purchased it today.
It’s the latest 2020 model and appears it’s related to the IOS13.5 update. I’ve tried everything out there so I’ll take it in today and they can hopefully fix it
