Apple TV Remote

Why does my Apple TV remote no longer control my TV and turn it on? The only thing that changed in my setup, since it has worked for years, is possibly an Apple TV update (since I have it set to auto-update). I have checked all of the settings and they are all correct still. Any ideas?
