Dropped my phone in water. No display. Screen is not working

Dropped my phone in water. No display. Screen is not working. Went on iCloud to erase data. Has been showing “Erase Pending” for almost two days. Waiting for it to erase so I can return it. Any idea if and how long before data will be erased?

If the phone was liquid damage and can no longer connect to the Internet via either WiFi or cellular data, it will never complete the erase.

If the device was working correctly and connected to the internet, the erase would be practically instantaneous. Clearly it is too damaged to do anything with.
