How can I avoid the forced password change for my account
I do not want or wish to consider changing my password to log in to check mail and use devices assigned to this account. How can I avoid this? thanks

i have the same problem. i have several apple devices that are happy and i've had no recent problems. but when i tried to log into icloud webpage and after doing the two factor ID the only page that will show up is a mandatory "Choose a stronger password" page. it lists password characteristics (which my current password meets) and there is no way to opt out.
the "cancel" button is the only button not dim and when selected dumps me back out to the original icloud login page, which when i log in and do the two factor again, pushes me to the "Choose a stronger password" page again.
oddly enough, when i logged into this discussion page, this page accepted my password after the two factor pop up.
i do not want to change my password as it already meets the password characteristics. the Choose a stronger password page notes the date that i last changed my password, which is over a year old.

You have to update the Apple ID and password once again in system preferences see the articles https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/autofill-user-name-and-password-info-ibrwf71ba236/13.0/mac/10.15#ibrw98e15c60

this reply does not address the question of the OP. your reply discusses keychain access on a mac. this question has nothing to do with keychain access.
i am having the same problem at the icloud.com login page requiring me to change my password when there has been no compromise of any of my devices.
when logging into the icloud.com webpage, i am also stuck in a loop that requires me to change my password even tho my current password meets all the password requirements listed on the change password page. i have all my devices in my possession and there are no other indications that my account has been compromised.
Who's forcing you to change your password?
