Battery drops with suspected background apps

The battery on my iPhone8 often drops unexpectedly. I had turned off all the "background refreshes", notifications, location services. I checked the battery statistics, I saw that the iMessage and Gboard apps were using the battery in the background. Last several weeks, the same things happened, which the apps such us Mail, Calendar and a few other apps used the battery in the background. I removed those apps, and now it is happening to iMessage app and perhaps other apps. I always keep my iPhone with the latest iOS upgrade. What is happening to my iPhone? Is it being hacked? Any solutions?

Hi SinaPP,

I understand your iPhone battery is depleting faster than expected.

I would recommend checking your Battery Health under Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If it is degraded, it may require service. If this is the case, I recommend you Contact Apple Support. You can learn more about iPhone Battery Performance here: iPhone Battery and Performance.

Some apps will use battery even when not in use as they are receiving information, such as Messages, or when music is playing in the background - this is completely normal.

You can further reduce app activity by limiting Location Services for apps. You can learn how to do so here: Turn Location Services and GPS on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Hope this helps! Feel free to write back if you require further assistance.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!
