MacOS Catalina 10.15.5 sudden shut down.

Just updated my MBP 16" to MacOS Catalina 10.15.5. everything was smooth at first, but about a few days in something funny happens. My MBP would suddenly freeze, the machine will shut down completely(the fan will suddenly spin very fast before shutting down), then it reboots again.

Another issue is with the keyboard. I'm using a Logitech K480 bluetooth keyboard. The Copy and Paste function will suddenly stop working, as well as the emoji hotkey, and also spotlight(cmd+space).

FCPX also suddenly crash, exports have glitches and green frames. I'm not really sure what is the problem. During background render, FCPX will eat up all my RAM. I'm not sure is that normal or not.

It just very irritating when i'm trying to get work done.

Does your MacBook Pro shut down when FCPX is NOT running? Does it crash when FCPX is rendering? If it is using up all your RAM and resources then your MacBook Pro is probably overheating and then shutting down. Is there an update available for it?

I am sure that you may have tried the two things listed below and if not then please do-

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook Air here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook Air here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM.

Same problem with both mine and my colleague's MacBook Pro.

When it goes into sleepmode after 15 minutes, we wouldn't be able to wake it up. The fan blows really hard for a second and the whole thing just shuts down right after that. This problem emerged since I updated to Catalina 10.15.5.

It ruins our workflow and is contradicting with the essence of having a MacBook Pro.

We've changed our settings so that our MacBook doesn't go into sleepmode.

My MacBook Pro doesn’t shut down when FCPX is not running, it stops abruptly when it wants to do a background render. It is somehow using up all the RAM because I could see my memory used in Activity Monitor goes up to 10gb+ I only have 16gb of RAM btw. I’ve tried both of the suggestions you gave, but still no avail.
