Imessage wrong phone number

I have recently got a new phone and changed networks . However , i have decided to keep my old number and after my network has said that it has swapped the phone number back to my original , i am unable to receive messages from a device on a different network ?

Also the phone number related to my imessage is the temporary number my network gave me and after trying to change it to my original one it will not change what should i do?

You need to change the number on your Apple ID. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime.
