Is Apple TV 3rd gen still receiving security updates?
Is Apple TV 3rd gen still receiving security updates? Or is it no longer safe to use, like Windows 7?
Last update, was in September of last year: Apple security updates - Apple Support
Unless there is an actual vulnerability out there for the 3rd gen Apple Tv that is not patched or fixed by Apple, its still perfectly safe to use. I have heard of no vulnerability at this time for it though.
Whether Apple plans on providing another update in the future is unknown.
Unlike Windows, Apple TVs aren't really targets of vulnerabilities, even if it was somehow vulnerable, there no real data to get from an Apple TV. It doesn't store anything and all passwords and emails used with the channels on it are not stored on it either.
Most updates are to add features, like the new TV App to support Apple Tv+.
