I received a message to update WhatsApp. I accessed the App Store to update. I received this message. CANNOT UPDATE AP. WhatsApp Messenger cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID. I cannot access WhatsApp at this time. Thanks for any assistance.

I understand from your question that you are getting an error message when trying to update your WhatsApp. I'd like to help. With the error message you received, you'll need to use the Apple ID that purchased the WhatsApp in order to update.
You can delete and download WhatsApp with your current ID. However, before doing I would suggest making sure your data is backed up from WhatsApp: How to backup to iCloud
I would also suggest contacting WhatsApp and make sure that your data can be restored if using a different Apple ID: How to contact an app developer
