Disable Tap to Scroll to Top !!!

Interestingly, in web-based OneNote the scroll-to-top function is absent. With the toolbar hidden in Safari the reading experience is similar to the OneNote app.

In the OneNote app's Immersive Reader mode the scroll-to-top function is also absent. Of course it lacks all the rich text abilities. As a workaround in standard mode you can copy to the clipboard a unique word in the section text you are reading. If you accidentally trigger scroll-to-top you can use search to quickly return to near where you were in the document. If you can't find a unique word type one such as 'Abracadabra' and remove it later.

Whilst your specific need is fully understood, many would equally argue that the UI gesture you wish to annihilate is useful. Personally, I’d argue for addition of similar gesture that would move to the end of the document.

The ideal solution would be the option to enable and disable certain features. Whist out of scope for this discussion, I could happily make a list of UI optimisations.

It amazes me that Apple, a company that prides itself on user experience, has ignored thread after thread year after year on this issue. Maybe some people like the gesture, but for those who is causes a problem for it makes the phone unusable. I won’t be buying another iPhone until this issue gets attention, the phone is more or less unusable due to this. No excuse for not making this feature toggleable after 5 years of complaints on it.

I sympathise and wholeheartedly agree that some gestures (and many menu actions) should require confirmation before execution. The only avenue available to voice your constructive feedback is via the feedback pages - of which you have already been made aware.

That argument would not be “equal”. Taking this feature out doesn’t make the phone unusable, it just removes a gesture. Having this feature present does make the phone unusable for people who tap the top of the screen accidentally due to how we hold the phone. Those are not equal arguments. I can hear Steve Jobs yelling from the grave that I’m holding it wrong...
