Apple Watch Thermometer

My Apple Watch is dead and won’t charge. However, the watch face shows only a thermometer that covers the whole screen when I plug it in. It’s not like the usual small over heating symbol that appears next to the time like it shows in Apple help. I’ve checked everywhere and couldn’t find any help on this.
