Can Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) Restore to different file system?

Currently I have 10.14.6 and APFS. I was wondering if CCC will restore on a volume that is not APFS such as the extended journaled or other format. Or does the backup created in whatever format the volume when CCC created the image was created only restores the same file system.

Yes, but not by using Disk Utility. See the following from https://bombich.com/kb/ccc5/restoring-from-disk-image

Note: The destination volume format must match the format of the disk image that you're restoring from. This limitation is specific to Disk Utility – if you're restoring from a disk image using CCC, CCC can restore an APFS disk image to an HFS+ volume, and you can restore an HFS+ disk image to an APFS volume. Use Disk Utility as a last resort.
