With Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on the computer, it should per se be possible to combine two adapters:
Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple
Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple
However, this is not an ideal solution, so it may or may not work with your MacBook Pro and its operating system and applications. If you wish to carry out any experiments with this, please double-check that you are using the correct cables/ports (and that all involved adapters are compatible).

Do not try to connect the camcorder's DV (i.LINK/IEEE 1394/FireWire) output directly to anything USB.
It may in fact be better to buy or borrow an older Mac (with built-in FireWire ports), running an older Mac OS X version with a corresponding iMovie application.

You should be able to use FireWire/DV/i.LINK for a transfer, but that would require a MacBook Pro with a FireWire port (and an appropriate FireWire cable). A Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter may also work, if necessary (possibly even a combination of two adapters).

I have already the iMovie in my Notebook, but if I plug this cable , should it works ? detecting the Sony Handycam . . .
