Plugging more stuff into my Macbook pro

I need an extra monitor connection and another USB slot in my 2015 Macbook Pro. Can I use the Mini Display port to dual link DVI adapter DVI slot for my monitor, and use the USB slot for something unrelated to the monitor, such as my computer camera?

Yes, you should have no issues using the DVI portion to connect your external display and using the USB portion to connect your USB peripheral. Both should work normally.
