Apple Watch says not connected to internet and won't update

Absolutely at my wits end. My watch randomly reset itself this morning. I went to repair it to my phone and it is saying, "Unable to Check for Update: Checking for software update failed because you are not connected to the Internet". I am connected to the internet via cellular and WiFi. My iPhone is update to the latest version as well. (iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 4). I figured I should disconnect my watch from my Apple ID and try to start all over, it still will not work. I have also reset both my phone and watch about 10 times. It will go through the pairing process and then just stop at the update screen. It was just working yesterday and early this morning but just randomly reset. I can't manually update it as it isn't connecting to my phone to do so. Please help.

So I managed to get it working! Here's what I did, I am not sure if this is what did it for sure but it took a few days. Okay, so I went through the pairing process. It paired per usual and then went to the "Can't update because you aren't connected to internet screen". So, I basically gave up and just left my watch on the charger for 3 days. I didn't reset the watch again; I just left it on the pairing screen and threw it on the charger. Well, this morning, when I connected my phone to the charger (I forgot to charge overnight), it did the thing where it requires a passcode to login instead of using my Face ID. When I did that, it immediately said "Apple Watch needs an update" on the main screen. I made sure my watch was still on the charger, then hit update from the main screen. When I went to the watch app, it said installing. It took about 30 minutes but it slowly went through the process of setting up my watch as a new watch. I was afraid it would mess up if I did it from backup. It's now working perfectly. So I'm not sure which of the steps worked but it is now working perfectly again.

mperdue101 - thank you for your diligent follow up on this thread. I experienced an almost identical situation, and was going to keep an eye on things before posting. Hard to say what was the magic sauce, but after numerous attempts, and right before I was going to reformat the iPhone, the Watch App was able to download the update. All is well so far. Perhaps Apple snuck out a fix under the cover of darkness...All the best for those still struggling on this issue...
