Continuous 'Service Exited in system log

I get the following continuously in my system log. Any advice on what it is and how to stop it?

Thanks

This can also occur when migrating from a version of OS X/MacOS that didn't require signed mdimporters (usually provided by apps claiming file name suffixes). They'd be found in /Library/Spotlight/ and they can be deleted by sudo from someone with administrator access. Like throwing a switch and those messages stop in the system log.

Found out by forcing a Spotlight re-index and got a pop-up message saying the UID mdworker.shared.0A000000-0500-0000-0000-000000000000 or so, the second numerical field would be a volume that can't be scanned by an unsigned mdimporter and the process gets killed (too fast for you to get the identifying info in the Activity Monitor).

The one I recall adding in Mavericks was epub.mdimporter (an archive). Managed to pass all the way through the Migration Assistant for Big Sur 11.1 (on a Macbook Air M1).

Getting rid of the messages made my day.

thank you @HWTech, though I am not looking for assistance. I was just chiming in with a similar experience. FWIW I did use Etrecheck, and it could not identify the runaway process. A kernel task, diagnosticd and suggestd were all suspiciously high, but based on my error... it seems like spotlight is the culprit (at least indexing issues with mdworker).

If you post the EtreCheck report here the regular contributors can analyze the report for you to point out software that is known to cause problems. The EtreCheck report only checks to make sure the software is "legit" and does not provide information about the quality of the apps since that is more subjective and the developer of EtreCheck would be sued. While EtreCheck will show anti-virus apps and cleaning apps as "OK" this means they are from a "legitimate" developer and are not technically considered malware although some are considered as such by some of the regular contributors here. AV & cleaning apps typically cause more problems than they solve and usually interfere with other apps and impact performance.

@HWTech, thank you.

I do not use any cleaning apps, nor use any AV packages. I believe that in my case that it is due to a kext issue with my ThunderBay and softraid driver. I have it mounted as an SMB share with another server and the handshake seems to be causing an issue.

Should that be the case I will update my post.

Again, many thanks

Having this same issue which is causing frequent slow downs, beach balling, crashes (especially in Lightroom). Having big issues with Lightroom--drains battery faster than ever before and will go black in the middle of working in the program.

Read through the replies and ran EtraCheck. Could someone give me some input based on my report, please? I've already deleted some of the files listed in the report such as Flip4Mac, Wacom files, etc.

Thanks,

CAW

Have the same errors with my brand new MacBook Air. Saw some references to Office 360, I'm also running that. But the problem I have is that MacOS tells me there's a Software Update, I choose to download and install, it starts, but just never gets there, at some time aborts and is back at the notification in System Preferences saying there's an Update available. At this point I try to use Safari - to search the error message, for example - and nothing, it doesn't even start connecting to the internet. Have to reboot.

Hi. I am new to this forum. I am seeing this in my activities monitor. I Know I have a virus on my computer that keeps re directing my browser to "bing" and I am trying to stop it. I belive I accidentally uploaded this virus while updating adobe flash or acrobat. I believe the ap it is disguising it self as is "common business" I have deleted & uninstalled this ap and it is right back on my computer. The parent process seems to be this "launchd (1)" . Now that being said, I know nothing about computers and how they process, so I may have this all wrong?!? But if anyone knows please chime in!!! Thanks so much.

Thank you for not reading and not posting helpful replies.

No one said that logging events is a problem. Neither is logging the cause of the problem.

And yes, in this case it is a symptom that something must be fixed.

But hey, it's OK if you don't open the console or look at the log files. That's your way of ignoring things happening.

For my part, i would really appreciate getting shown a way to find out why the **** mds is killing these mdworkers.
