I bought a used macbook today and it has a password but i do not know the password or how to factory reset the macbook

I'm a rookie & have no technical background. He told me he'd erased his info and reset it to factory settings, BUT HE DID NOT. When I called him, he wouldn't respond. My initial instincts are to go to his office to convince him to reset it again but I'm disabled & too old to get in a situation in a public setting. Password for repair and reset?? Do I need my macbook pro password to take it in to be fixed and set to factory reset?

To do this you can boot into ➔ macOS Recovery Mode by using COMMAND+OPTION+R Keys and then use the macOS UTILITIES option to erase the entire drive. You would then proceed to reinstall the macOS.
