Stations evaporate on the next launch of iTunes

I added several audio files to iTunes, assigned "podcast" as their media kind. The files are NOT a subscription to the iTunes podcast. I created a station from them but the second I launched iTunes the station disappeared. So my question is, is it possible to create a station if the files were not a subscribed podcast?

If not possible then Apple could've prevent the action by not allowing it followed by a warning dialogue.

Not a behaviour I've investigated, but I suspect you may be correct that stations are only designed to work with subscribed podcasts. Apple aren't listening here. Use Feedback - iTunes - Apple.
