Apple ID - cant reset if no RK or Trusted Device

Then:

created an Apple ID identity on appleid.apple.com April 2019

turned on Two Step verification

snapshot from event shows  "Trusted Devices" =  "No Devices Available"

does show my iPhone phone number

Today: I don't seem to have the RK (recovery key)

Attempts:

1 iforgot.apple.com leads to RK - no go

2 Apple Support app just leads to a page requiring the RK

3 iCloud on my iPhone - if I click on "use different Apple ID" we are back to a circular reference where the "forgotten your Apple ID or password" link merely reappears.

4 "If you're unsuccessful using any of these methods,..." there's no prompt to enter any such "account information", only the RK prompt again

on the link you've provided, for anybody else monitoring this thread is the following ominous warning:

  • Remembering your password
  • Keeping your trusted devices physically secure
  • Keeping your Recovery Key in a safe place

If you lose access to two of these three items at the same time, you could be locked out of your Apple ID permanently.

I don't remember my password

I don't have the RK

This warning should be on the Apple ID account creation screen, eh?

I was able to solve this issue, here's how I did it:

  1. I connected and mounted all my backup drives to my Mac laptop.
  2. I used Houdahspot (but Apple's Spotlight or Smart Search capability might also work) to find all images created on the same date as the one snapshot I could find on my computer related to the event from April 2019. I used Houdahspot's "local volumes + user home" search scope feature.
  3. I sorted by date
  4. I started previewing any image files from that date and low and behold, I had screen shotted the required info.
  5. Thank the stars! Im back in and created a new RK, and can use my account.
