iTunes keeps asking to verify payment information

I am using 9.2.1 (although this problem started with iTunes 9.2 sometime) and iTunes keeps asking me to verify my payment information whether I am using my iPhone, iPad or my iMac. I verify and the transaction goes ahead. It does not matter whether it is a free update for an App on my iPad or iPhone or purchasing music or a TV Show on my iMac. The error message is that a transaction has taken place on a new device or computer and that it needs to verify my payment information.

The verification lists my card data and address etc. correctly but I need to keep entering the card security number.

Support keep telling me to delete and re-enter my car info which does not help. Anyone else seen this issue?

Seems to be something to do with a new security check they have put in the system that does not work correctly and support is totally incapable of helping me out.

CRACKED IT! We have one pc, two iphones and two itunes account.

Iphone user 2 had logged in and backed up as user 1 in error (thereby getting all user 1's apps and music).

When user 2 went to upgrade user 1's apps it asked for security code. Entered multiple times but no use. OFF COURSE NOT THEY WERE BOUGHT WITH USER 1s CREDIT CARD!

We deleted user 1's apps from user 2's iphone and the problem disappeared. User 2 can now download the apps on his own itunes account.

I am glad it is working for you. We have only one account so the mixup cannot occur. Have you made sure you can go back from the PC to iPhones and back again, using the same account, without having to reverify?

Would be interested to know, as it will either confirm or disprove my hypothesis.

Just another one to say, it's happening to me too. Grr..I too have the correct phone number and I don't have an additional iTunes library. Just my main computer and my ipod touch. To make it even more frustrating, when I try entering in the security number, I get a "Credit Card processing unavailable" Anyone else experiencing this?

Same problem here. I have been trying to purchase a gift certificate for a birthday present for someone, and every time (and I'd say I've tried at least 20 times) I get a message stating my credit card has been denied and to update my info. I checked it out, and everything is up to date and correct (although I have to manually key in the security code). I click done, and get the same message. I've tried three different cards - same problem. This morning I called the credit card company and was told there was nothing wrong with my account...and that they noted a $1 prior authorization from iTunes (which means iTunes is checking to make sure my account is kosher). It is at moments like this that I wish I had my old Dell laptop back. Even Windows XP was better that this! I did send an email to iTunes (why no phone number?) and received a confirmation - but it can take up to 48 hours for a response (and I see that some people have received no response at all). This was to be a gift as I mentioned before...I have just days to order this, or the gift will be late. Rambling here...but I'm really fed up with Mac products!

This is not a fix for everyone. I have tried everything in this thread, including contacting iTunes (via email) and calling my credit card company. There is nothing wrong with my cc info on this site, and nothing wrong with my cc account. This is yet another MacGlitch!

Interesting to see that iTunes does not provide a phone number for account queries, nor does it answer queries via email nor questions in discussions.

MacSucks...I want my PC back!

What about this- I got my iPhone 4 online and authorised it on my own iTunes account and I don't have a problem. My wife got her iPhone 4 at a Vodafone shop and they authorised it in the shop and she is getting the problem. Looks to me like this could be the key in our case.

Perhaps you are correct. I have the Iphone 4 and had to get a new sim for it from ATT and I have been having this issue. I just noticed it today at work. I think though and everyone should try this that a sync with updated itunes program on the computer may fix the issue. I tried from work playing with all CC options and CC options are not the issue. I bet if I update the APPs in iTunes and then sync it may fix the issue. I also needs to consolidate about 3 iTunes accounts which is my own dumb problem.

Apple support is driving me mad.

I keep asking them whether it is supposed require that, if you move to one of your devices on which you did not make your last purchase, you would have to re-verify you method of payment. I never get an answer.

They always reply:

1. Delete and re-enter your card details (I have done this several times and it makes no difference).

2. If you think you have security problem, then check with card issuer. (I do not)

3. You must have upgraded the OS on one of the devices (I did not).

They never read my email so that, in other words, they have no clue whatsoever and never answer my question. It's like asking how many cats they have and being told that they have 12 dogs!!

For the moment I have stopped using anything except my iMac to buy stuff from iTunes and then syncing the other devices with my iMac. Very inconvenient and stops me renting on the Apple TVs. So long as a I stick to one machine it works, start trying to use the same account to update iPhone apps and the grand charade starts again.

Thanks Apple for ruining a perfectly good system.

Also note that I used to have a lot of respect for Apple support. Not any more.

This is just crazy.... I have put in my credit card verification number 100 times! It's making me crazy. I have only one account... an iMac, a MacBook, and an iPhone... I have NEVER purchased through AppleTV...

If I put it in, quit iTunes, and try again... it's asking again... even though NO OTHER device has accessed... it's just 10 seconds later!

What is the deal?!?!! This all started about 2 iTunes updates ago, and it's making me CRAZY! I don't always have that credit card at my disposal!!!

Thanks. I had seen this info before and the computer I use to sync my iPad, iPhone and Apple TVs is logged into the iTunes store account I use. Your suggestion was helpful.

Unfortunately the problem is that it appears to forget that a computer, device and whatever have been verified. If it worked as per the article you cite, it would be OK. But it does not. Once you change devices for a purchase and verify the account with that device, the original device is forgotten and you have to re-verify again and again and again etc. etc. Quite tedious.

Also Apple support no longer respond, so all in all I believe that Apple's fix is somewhat intrusive and makes the whole iTunes purchase experience a disaster.

From what I can see Apple are not in the least interested in solving the problem and have left their support people out to dry. Or maybe, in typical Apple style, they are looking into it and not telling anyone....

Anyway, until they fix it, I am done with Apps, iTunes the lot. Too much trouble and I am fed up with being treated like an idiot by Apple. Unfortunately I one person in millions so I am irrelevant. I also know 7 people now who are having the same problem and some of them were newbies to Apple. One even went back to Frys and returned his iMac..... The Amazon purchasing experience is a lot better. I can use my Kindle and purchase stuff from any computer without having to go through this.

And so it goes....

I have this same problem. I recently purchased the iPhone4. I contacted Apple support about it twice. The first time they talked with billing and had my credit card information removed, then had me add it back and it actually worked for a couple of hours, then started doing it again. The second time I called, they told me this was a known issue and to set my payment method to "none" and I would be able to download free apps and get updates but could not purchase anything. I was told my name was put on a list and I would be emailed when there was a fix. Can you believe that! What about app developers? the must be losing money over this. I would think some kind of agreements are being broken between developers and iTunes.

So seems Apple have dropped yet another ball with iPhone 4. By the way with the 3G I never had these isses in two years time...

iTunes keeps asking to verify payment information
