voicemail on 10XR

what's the solution to these problems with voicemail

Thanks for that. I did that and had to delete the existing voicemail account, do a network reset and then set up a new voicemail account. Five days later the same problem all over again. I spent about 90 minutes with an Apple engineer who did some analytics on the account and the explained in depth that the voicemail function has no connection to the Apple hardware or software. I will go back to the service provider as both you and he have advised. Thanks
