Keyspan USA-28x b

I have a macbook pro 10.5.8

I upgraded my keyspan software to 10.6 by mistake, now nothing I do will let me back install for leopard

I have a usa-28x b

Connected to a roland pnc 1100 vinyl cutter

all was going fine (cutting from signcut), until I misread an update - I HAVE TRIED EVERYTING TO UNINSTALL (using the assistant) I have read numerous chat rooms and done a safe restart

I installed for snow leopard on a leopard system - for a clever fellow it obviously was pretty dumb - CAN anyone HELP get me back to installing the older software without the installer saying

"You cannot install keyspanUSAdrvr on this volume. A newer version of this software already exists on this volume."

My only thoughts are if I could find the mysterious invisible files - I am stuck - and with work piling up

Only two files are installed by both the 10.6 driver and the one for 10.4. Delete these two items:

Applications/Keyspan Serial Assistant
System/Library/Extensions/KeyspanUSAdriver.kext

You'll need to enter your admin password to delete the second item. Restart your Mac immediately afterwards. You should then be able to install either version of driver you wish.

In addition to the files mentioned by Kurt, you will also need to delete the receipt /Library/Receipts/keyspanUSAdrvr.pkg. The receipt contains the version number of the software installed. It also contains specific instructions from the original installer as to whether it is permissible to downgrade the software, so it is really the receipt that is preventing the downgrade.

Thanks guys, the suggested file 'pacifist' is great. I am cutting again thank you. I used it to JUST install the files at it works.

It's not perfect, as in the network window the usb/serial ports load but say it's not connected. but the signcut sofware sees it just fine and it all works.

I used the assistant to uninstall, hoping that would pick up the 'culprit' file that says it can't load because of a newer version is already installed. But wasn't that lucky. So I reinstalled thru Pacifist and got it running again.

I did find those files earlier on that you mentioned, thank you - ending deleting anything visible or invisible connected with Keyspan.

I have let the new owners of Keyspan - Tripplite - know that they have a 10.6 installer that will install on 10.5.8, but no answer yet ofter 3 days
