mail app quits in macos 15.5.5

Question

Just upgraded to Catalina 15.5.5 and mail quits when I try to launch.

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 10.15

More specifically, when I start Mail, the display quits. I then close Mail, reopen and everything is fine. I can't figure it out.

If launching Mail starts to a blank display, click its Window menu and select Message Viewer. That usually fixes it.
