Question: Macbook Pro getting very hot

My Macbook Pro is getting very hot.

After reading some of the other posts I have this info 1) it's not "overheating" and shutting down, BUT it is getting hot enough that I can't keep it on my lap because it's uncomfortable. 2) It gets very hot whether I'm charging it and using it or using it without charging it at the same time. 3) Today I used it inside in my office (using microsoft word only) for six hours on a table in a room that has been 68 degrees all day. It still got hot enough that I couldn't put it on my lab. Confident that it's not "the environment" being too hot. No other programs were running other than iMessage and sometimes Google Chrome. It's less than a month old.

My laptop lives in a zippered case when it isn't being used. And it's rarely used.

I'm curious - how many other people are experiencing this problem?

Is there something that is running in the background that I can turn off to keep it from getting so hot?
