if the LCD water detector hasn't been activated on your phone XS but you have moisture in the front camera is the phone still covered under the 1 year limited warranty ? How can Apple get a IP68 rating on this if you phone gets wet but still fails?

If phone is ip68 rated what does that really mean and what are your rights if it is damaged by a splash of water? If phone is rated and is damaged by a splash of water then surely it should not be ip68 rated - and if it cant then that should mean there is a breach in consumer protection and you can claim for it to be repaired or replaced?

iPhone X IP67? Curious how Apple can claim the iPhoneX has an IP67 rating when the device is clearly not capable of being submerged in any amount of fresh water for any amount of time. The IP67 rating is certified by an international standard run by IEC. This is not just an Apple promise made by an excited marketing department but rather a certification by a regulatory body. My iPhoneX was momentarily dipped in a lake when in my pocket - no more than 3 seconds and a depth of less than 1 foot. The only reason I had my phone in my pocket was because of Apple's claim that the device is IP67 rated (submerge up to 30 seconds and depth of up to 1 meter without adverse effects) and now my device is unusable.

True meaning of IP68 Rating of the iPhone Xs series? I have an iPhone Xs that was recently dropped into a bathroom sink full of water, was immediately removed, dried out but the screen failed and it "died" after an hour. I just came back from a consultation at a Apple Store's Genius Bar where I was told that my only option would be to replace for $550. Why isn't it covered under the IP68 rating? My water in my bathroom sink is < 0.2m deep so seems like either the IP68 rating or Phil's hypothetical scenario misrepresented the device's true water resistance capability.

Water damage is not covered by the standard warranty and you'll have to replace your device.

Neither IP67 or IP68 ratings are any kind of guarantee against water damage from any water exposure. They are simply an indication your device has a lower likelihood of suffering damage than an un-rated device exposed the same way would.

They get the IP68 rating based on testing in laboratory controlled conditions. Is that how you got your iPhone wet?
