Thank you- I've been using the web version. I was afraid of deleting from my MAC, as I thought I would lose all my info.

You are Welcome.

Deleting the Account from Your Mac:

Nothing would be intended to be deleted. All would be in the eMail account — the eMail Provider’s server is where this is all coming from/going to.

So, all those eMails and their attachments — well they’re just part of the eMail Provider services and are accessed through servers.

Creating a Time Machine Backup First...

So, create a backup of your Mac, then go about removing the account. Create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac, that way you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the install, and to migrate it all back. Use an External Hard Drive at least 1.5 times the size of the Internal Hard Drive.

Take a look for log .txt files being saved —

From the Finder>Go>Go To Folder, copy&paste:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Logs/Mail

I have seen anywhere from 12 GB to 342 GB of logs built up here.

(*new record 700GB ! ref: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251036711?page=1)

You would be safe to delete all those logs.
