2nd Gen Apple Pencil nib replacement after 3 weeks!!!

Hi. My daughter is 10 & started using an iPad Pro + 2nd gen pencil for Procreate. She is totally proficient with the software & very careful. Her nib needs replacing after 3 weeks!!!! That’s crazy. We bought the iPad for her schoolwork & art as we’re heading off to start world schooling. Firstly it is not affordable to replace the nib every 3 weeks & they won’t be available for replacement if we’re off the beaten track. Very disappointing. I don’t want my daughter to draw less or censor her work because of the pencil-nib!! Any tips to make it last longer and what can Apple do to improve the durability?

It is the roughness and friction of the matte screen protector that is wearing down the Apple Pencil nibs/tips more quickly.

To help with the wear, there are makers on Amazon that make replaceable, thin silicone tip covers that you can put over tip of an Apple Pencil to make the more expensive, replaceable tips last longer by changing out thr cheaper silicone tip covers, instead.

These thin, silicone covers do not affect Apple Pencil sensitivity.

Also, both Apple and Amazon sell a set of 4 Apple Pencil tips for $20.

Are you using a textured screen protector? If so, due to the increased friction, the tip will wear more quickly than when using a smooth glass screen.

The Pencil tip is a consumable item - and is intended to wear with use. That said, three weeks for a change suggests some enthusiastic drawing must be taking place.

Spare Pencil tips are purchased as a pack of spares.

Drawing with an Apple Pencil on a smooth, glass screen protector won’t feel any different than drawing directly on the iPad’s actual screen.

The point of a matte screen protector is to add some texture or “tooth” to the iPad's screen to make the iPad's screen less slick to be able to draw or write with using the hard plastic tip of the Apple Pencil.
