messages not syncing on macbook

I just got a new macbook and connected my apple id and icloud. I can send and receive new texts on my macbook but for some reasons I can't sync all my old messages like i did with my previous macbook. I've tried going into preferences and syncing icloud and making sure all the correct preferences are ticked but it still won't sync. I'm not sure what to do.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hello Aretikm,


It sounds like you are able to send and receive messages on your MacBook, however you are unable to sync the message history. For this you would want to use the message sync feature in iCloud. There are a few step you can try to resolve this issue.


  • Restart your device.

Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

  • Check you are using the same Apple ID.

Sign in with your Apple ID

  • Check the iCloud message settings are turned on.

Keep all your messages in iCloud

  • Check for updates

How to update the software on your Mac
