Since I have updated to 10.15.5 my MBP 16" connected to external monitor goes to kernel panic anytime it goes to sleep mode.
Tried to disable power nap no success, reset the MSC no success.
The only work around I found is to never allow the screen and the pc to go to sleep but this leave the MAC always on.

Have you tried to clear the nvram? I just got off the chat with Apple support. They advised me to try to
reset the NVRAM and I haven't had the kernel panic since (half an hour with two screenlocks).

Uninstall "Bitdefender". Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk.
Since my temporary workstation also quit on me I tried a different cable to connect my external screen. That does seem to help somewhat. I am now using a simple usb-c to displayport cable to connect to my external screen without crashes so far. I have been locking and unlocking my screen a few times without problems so far.
I'm having the same issue on my mid-2013 MBA, starting immediately after updating to 10.15.5. When plugged into power, if my laptop enters sleep mode with the clamshell open, it fails to wake and reboots into kernel panic instead. I've already disable PowerNap, etc., and have no issues with external monitors or junk kexts, either.
Same on my MBP 16" since last night after I installed the update. I've had 5 crashes since. External monitor frozen or showing weird artefacts. And some full restarts.
This actually only helps partially with locking the screen and logging back in shortly. Longer breaks still cause panics.
It's a regular problem with Catalina 10.15.5. I have the same problem with my Macbook Pro 15 Touchbar 2016.
Without my external monitor connected I don't seem to have the issue. Quite annoying though.
