I can not connect my AirPods

I upgraded my iPhone from an 8+ to 11. I can not connect my AirPods. It says not your AirPods then it says connect then press button. Did all of that and got a red explanation point. But it connects to everyone phone in my house plus the Verizon rep at the store.
