Old I pad does not open..How do I delete or erase so as to trade in

Unfortunately if iPad no longer is functional you cannot erase it.

If the iPad no longer functions at all, it has essentially zero trade in value. Just recycle it.

If the battery is dead, there is nothing you can do, but that being said, if the battery is dead, the data won’t be able to be retrieved so it doesn’t need to be erased. If the battery is dead, the iPad isn’t going to be worth hardly anything so it’s probably not going to be worth anything other than to recycle it.
