Open the PDF in Preview, the PDF viewer included with the operating system. From the View menu, select thumbnails. Now you can select one or more pages using the shift (or ⌘) key. Then drag and drop the selected thumbnails to your Desktop. It will use the original name of the PDF with the wording "(dragged)" added before the .PDF extension.

However, in the context of Pages, you cannot drag and drop content directly from Preview into Pages, nor will Pages display more than one PDF page if you drag and drop PDF that multi-page content from the Desktop into it as a document object.
