How do I make Wifi Calling the default on my iPhone 10s?
Can I force my iPhone 10s to choose wifi as the default calling protocol? We have poor cell reception in our house.

On all of my devices Wi-Fi calling is always the default. It will only fall back to cellular if the Wi-Fi signal is too weak. And if I move around at home it will switch seamlessly between the two while on a call. It should be the default on yours, also, unless your Wi-Fi signal is very weak or slow. Indeed, there is no way to make cellular calling the default without turning off Wi-Fi calling. Go to Settings/Cellular. I’m assuming your have Wi-Fi calling on and Personal Hotspot off (if it is on that precludes use of Wi-Fi calling, because it uses the same Wi-Fi circuit as Wi-Fi calling). Also, scroll to the bottom and turn off Wi-Fi assist, which really shouldn’t matter unless your Wi-Fi signal is weak or drops out periodically, but it won’t hurt to try with it off.

KarenJN,
I understand your your issue with the cell signal being strong enough that the phone will go with that instead of Wi-Fi. I frequently have difficulties with a cell signal not being strong enough in my house for a reliable call. While you can select to make a Wi-Fi call, as explained in the referenced article, there isn't a setting to make Wi-Fi calling the default selection.
Cheers.
Hello KarenJN,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you want to use Wi-Fi calling over cellular. I would recommend taking a look at the following support article to make a call with Wi-Fi:

Best regards.
Thank you, Chris. I did read this article before posting the question and didn't see this questioned answered. I wanted to know if there is a way to make wifi calling the default method of calling on my iPhone Xs, so that if wifi is available, the phone would use that method to make a call before using cellular. I have very poor AT&T cellular coverage and call quality in my house, but it is not quite bad enough to kick the calls over to wifi. So, I wanted to be able, if possible, to have the phone choose wifi calling as the preferred method. I have tried turning off cellular while in the house and that works, but I always forget to turn cellular back on when leaving the house and then miss my calls. Is there a setting in the iPhone 13.5.1 software that will make wifi calling the preferred method of calling?
Hi Lawrence,
I do have the settings set as you suggested and have a great wifi signal in the house. I was not aware of how the cellular/wifi collaboration worked in the background. Thank you for the explanation!
I was afraid that was the answer, but was hoping someone more knowledgeable than I had a solution. Thank you for the response!
