Does time machine work when my mac is sleep?

Hello everyone,

This is my first time using Time Machine.

So, when my mac is in sleep mode is it still making the backup?

Hello,

If your Macintosh supports Power Nap then Time Machine will still continue backing up when in sleep mode.

Time Machine runs once an hour, so in theory sometime in the hour preceeding when you put yoru Mac to sleep it was backed up. At most you lose maybe an hour of changes. Maybe only 10 minutes. It all depends on when Time Machine ran, and when you put your Mac to sleep.
