Take Over My Mother's iPad

I recently purchased an iPad for my 94 year old mother. We live in different cities. When the time comes, will I be able to take back the iPad and use it for myself or will it be lost when I lose my mother? Thank you.

If you have her Apple ID and password, you will be able to perform the following procedure: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If not but if you have the receipt from the original purchase, Apple may help you.

Yes. Armed with the AppleID and associated password password, you’ll be able to reset the iPad.

I strongly recommend that you update the AppleID account to include one or more secondary (recovery) email addresses - and several trusted telephone numbers - to aid with AppleID account recovery if the need should ever arise.

If for any reason you lose access to the primary email address, then you will have alternative means of receiving account recovery responses from Apple. If not set prior to having a problem, it will be too late - and account recovery, even if possible, is considerably more difficult. In your outlined circumstances, it may pay dividends to plan ahead!

The AppleID account can be reviewed and updated, as necessary, from here:

Pay particular attention to the Security section.

I hope this information and clarification is helpful to you.
