Unable to sync iPhone 11 with iTunes

I have made sure we have the most updated version of Catalina on our desk top and the phone is updated to the best of my knowledge. Thanks to COVID-19, getting any live help is impossible. The computer iTunes doesn't even recognize the device is connected. We did a sync with the old iPhone 7 last night and now can't update the new phone.

Catalina does not have iTunes!

Can you explain in more detail how you are attempting the sync or update of the 11, and what happens.
