Unknown App in Screen Time

Today I noticed that Screen Time was showing that Google Drive had been up for over two and a half hours, but it's nowhere on my machine. There's also something called 'doc-08-docs.googleusercontent.com' for the same period of time. I know that at least one of the places where I get crossword puzzles uses Google Drive, but the time the I was at that site downloading puzzles would only have amounted to a couple of minutes this morning.

I'm on Catalina, 10.15.5, using Safari as my browser, if any of that matters.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Hi Steven Blunk,

Thanks for your post! I understand that you have noticed Screen Time is recording an unusually large amount of time spent using Google Drive and also an unknown source 'doc-08-docs.googleusercontent.com'. Are you keeping your machine powered on or is the machine turned off after use? Screen Time can be shared across devices, so the time you are seeing may be the aggregate use of that app if you use other Apple devices with Screen Time enabled.

Use Screen Time on your Mac

If you have not already, restart your machine and test to see if the issue is replicated:

How to turn your Mac on or off

Next, if the issue is persisting, attempt an NVRAM reset:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

If the issue continues to persist after these steps, create a test user and see if the issue continues:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Let us know what you find out!

Take care!

Thanks for the reply, becky_s22.

Google Drive has disappeared since I restarted my mini back on the 17th. The Google docs thing doesn't appear to be accruing any more screen time since I restarted about half an hour ago. Of course, I'll be visiting that site tomorrow, so they'll be back.

I doubt that I bother to reset the NVRAM/PRAM or to set up a second account to test. It's an annoyance, but I think I've learned enough I won't be using Screen Time anymore.

Thanks
