Keyboard backlight has disabled itself?

MacBook Pro no longer displays any keyboard backlight functions in System Preferences, and the keyboard lights don't work even though they do turn on briefly at start up but shut off completely after I sign in. Nothing happens when I tap the backlight-keys on the Touch Bar. It's like they are there and working fine, but I can't use them anymore.


Resetting SMC and PRAM does not work.

Mac Pro is a Desktop with an external keyboard.


MacBook Pro—If the ambient light is strong enough it shuts off the backlight.

You can test this by covering with your hand the FaceTime Camera/light sensor at the top of your screen.


Adjust the brightness of your backlit keyboard - Apple Support


You can reset the ambient backlight sensor if you have an issue:
