I’ve been wanting to cancel my iCloud subscription for months and just now learned to do so. How can I receive a refund for the money I have lost?

I don't know if you will be able to receive a refund for your iCloud subscription, especially if you have been using over the 5GB of free iCloud storage.

Your best option would be to contact Apple Support.
