clicking back on safari

hi, when using safari and want to go back to the previous page I will click the back button but then a list of all of the previous pages comes up. I don't want to choose from a big list every time. I will end up having to click the back button 3x to get to the previous page. I just want to go back to the previous page with 1 click

Click very briefly on the back button. If you hold it too long, the list of previous visited pages to choose from comes up
