Cannot Update App...App cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID

I was unable to access Whatsapp because there was a new update but it would not download the update because it said:


”Cannot update app...App cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID“


I contacted WhatsApp Support and searched the net/forums for a solution without lucky. Basically, the response was to uninstall the app and reload the new with my current Apple ID and loose all my conversations etc.


I tried the current ID and others but without luck but found a simply fix which worked for which should work for most apps you have on your iPhone to find the original Apple ID you used to purchase the App.


Also if you can’t recall the original password - it gives you the option to reset it, so you can download the update and regain access to WhatsApp without loosing any conversations etc.


Just do as follows, go to:

- Settings >

- General >

- iPhone Settings >

- Whatsapp >

- click Offload App >

- then click on Reinstal App >

-then you will see the Apple ID you purchased the app with >

- I tried a couple of passwords without luck then it gives you the option to reset by email or answer your security questions >

- I answered the questions because the email account no longer exists >

- I then reset password >

-then went back through the steps above from General & clicked Reinstall App put in password & I am back on line with Whatsapp.

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then you can't update it with another Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. You'll have to delete it and repurchase/download it again with the second Apple ID.
