Unpairing watch from a forgotten password

I have an Apple Watch which worked fine. The IPhone paired to it was ruined and I could not remember my Apple ID password when I got a new phone. I had to reset my password, but now my watch is requiring my old password (which I still can’t remember) in order to set it up. At this point, my Apple Watch is useless. What can I do?

Hello pamelafenmo.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I see that you are having some trouble with pairing your Apple Watch because it has Activation Lock and you don't know the password. I will be glad to assist.

Try the following steps to erase the Apple Watch and set it up again, from this following resource:

About Activation Lock on your Apple Watch

If you can't access your iPhone or Apple Watch, or if your Apple Watch isn't paired with your iPhone and you need to turn off Activation Lock:

  1. On a computer, go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Go to Find My iPhone.
  3. Select All Devices, then click your Apple Watch.
  4. Click Erase Apple Watch. Select Next until the device is erased.
  5. Click the remove button  next to your Apple Watch.

Cheers.
