A virus pop up warning

A pop up on a website saying to buy an app otherwise your personal data is at risk and then phone Apple? What should I do?

I already bought the app but then canseled the subscription because it sounded like a scam but then the part about phoning Apple?!

All such messages are scams. For future reference, close the offending page, then avoid sites that are involved in such bogus advertising tactics.

To add to stedman1’s post, DO NOT click a “close” button in the popup. It is not a close button, it is a button to notify the scammer that you got the popup and clicked on it. It only is labeled “close” to get you to click it. The safest way to close it is to go to Settings/Safari and erase website data and history, as described in the link.

There is at least one app that charges you immediately, even though it says that you have 24 hours to cancel. See this Apple support article to review your purchase history—>See your purchase history for the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support


If you see a charge there should be a “report a problem” button, or use this link—>Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support
