What is "other" in my iphone storage and why is it so high its taking half of my space.

“Other” is all storage not otherwise included in the colored categories. It may, for example, include misc. files no longer in use, caches, previously streamed videos and music, etc. The easiest way of clearing Other is to Restart your device.
