AirPods Battery Life on phone call vs YouTube

I have noticed on both left and right AirPods 1 of mine that I can use either one watching YouTube videos etc. for close to 2 hours yet when I use them for a phone call they die after 5 minutes. What's different between watching a video and making a call? I can't imagine the microphone being used on the phone call making such a big difference.

AirPods

  • Up to 5 hours of listening time with a single charge2
  • Up to 3 hours of talk time with a single charge3

Phone calls obviously take more power, according to published specs.

If they are dying in 5 minutes, I would supect you have battery issues.
